Task Response
Coherence & Cohesion
Lexical Resource
Grammatical Range & Accuracy

OpinionTo what extent do you agree or disagree? Do you agree?
DiscussionDiscuss both views and give your own opinion.
What solutions…?
Advantages/DisadvantagesDo the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Intro :
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
Intro :
Conclusion:
Intro :
Conclusion:

不要写 “With the development of society…”(90% 模板考生的开场白,考官直接警惕)。

While it is true that [反方观点],I believe [你的立场],because [一句核心理由].

While flexible remote work clearly benefits employees’ work–life balance, I believe it is on balance a negative development for companies, because collaboration and innovation suffer when teams rarely meet in person.

While I largely agree that stricter fines reduce traffic violations, I would argue that they must be combined with better road design to be truly effective.

P — Perhaps the most serious drawback is the erosion of spontaneous collaboration. E — When colleagues communicate only through scheduled calls, the informal exchanges in which ideas are tested and problems solved quietly disappear. E — For instance, a 2023 survey of 5,000 UK office workers found that over half of their most useful ideas emerged from unplanned conversations. L — Without such interactions, the very cooperation that makes a company more than a collection of individuals weakens noticeably.

P.E.E.L 里最容易丢分的是 E–Example:写 “for example, many people like it” 等于没写。

In conclusion, while flexible work brings genuine benefits to individuals, its long-term cost to company innovation convinces me that it should remain the exception rather than the rule.
Although the drawbacks of … are real, I am convinced they are outweighed by …(一个明确的”虽然–但是”判断句就能收满利弊题的分)

避免:First… Second… Third… 打头、in a nutshell、every coin has two sides、last but not least——这些是模板特征词,考官盯的就是它们。

The most immediate benefit is that…
This is compounded by the fact that… / A further concern relates to…
转折The key point, however, is that… / This is not to say that…
While it is true that…, the evidence points the other way…
举例A case in point is… / This can be seen in…
On balance, / Taken together, these points suggest that…

  2. 例证空洞:“for example, many people…”
  3. 逗号粘连句(comma splice)I think it is good, it saves time.

Some people think that governments should spend more money on railways rather than roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

While roads remain essential for rural communities and last-mile delivery, I believe that shifting the bulk of transport funding toward railways is a wise investment, because it offers a cheaper and cleaner way to move large numbers of people.

The strongest argument for prioritizing rail is its efficiency in moving volume. A single train carries several hundred passengers, whereas filling the same capacity on roads requires dozens of buses and hundreds of cars, each needing fuel, a driver and road space. (P 论点 → E 解释逻辑:运量对比)According to the International Association of Public Transport, urban rail systems typically move more passengers per kilometre of infrastructure than roads of comparable cost. (E 具体例证:机构 + 数据)Where cities have expanded their metro networks—Tokyo and Seoul being the most cited cases—congestion has measurably eased.

The second reason is environmental. Rail produces a fraction of the emissions of private cars per passenger-kilometre, and electric trains can run entirely on renewable power, which is far harder to achieve with a fleet of petrol vehicles. (P + E)A recent study by the European Environment Agency estimated that shifting 10% of road freight to rail would cut transport emissions in that region by roughly 5%. (E 带数字)This matters because transport is one of the fastest-growing sources of global emissions, and governments cannot ignore it indefinitely. (L 回扣”governments should spend”)

This is not to say that roads should be neglected; rural areas and freight still depend on them, and poorly maintained highways cause their own costs. (让步段:承认反方,防止观点片面)However, these needs are comparatively small in scale and can be met without the enormous sums currently devoted to ever-wider motorways. (反驳:规模不对称)The debate, therefore, is not about choosing roads or railways, but about correcting a funding balance that has favoured roads for decades.

In conclusion, although roads must remain adequately funded, the efficiency and environmental advantages of rail convince me that governments should redirect a substantial share of transport budgets toward railways.

  1. 开头一句话 = 全文地图;
  2. 每个主体段都有”机构/数据/城市”级别的具体例证;
  3. 有让步段,观点因此不偏激,逻辑无懈可击;

讨论题 Discussion(范文)

Some people believe that university students should pay all the costs of their studies because a university education mainly benefits the individual. Others think governments should pay because educated people benefit society as a whole. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

While it is true that a degree mostly raises the earner’s own salary and career prospects, I believe that charging students the full cost of university would be a serious mistake, because society benefits from an educated population almost as much as graduates do.

Those who favour full fees argue that higher education is a private investment. Graduates typically earn more over a lifetime than non-graduates, so it seems fair that they, rather than taxpayers, should pay for the training that produces those higher wages. In countries where fees are high, such as England, this logic has led many students to choose “safe” subjects with clear job outcomes, because they cannot afford to take risks with their own money.

The opposing view, which I share, is that education creates benefits that spill over to everyone. Doctors, teachers and engineers all graduate from university, yet their work serves the whole society, not just themselves. Moreover, a more educated population tends to be healthier, more innovative and more tolerant, which reduces public costs elsewhere. Finland and Germany, where tuition is free, consistently rank among the most productive economies in Europe—evidence that funding students publicly pays for itself over time.

That said, I am not arguing that individuals should pay nothing. A moderate fee, or a graduate tax paid only after graduates start earning, keeps students serious about their studies while protecting those from poorer families from being priced out of university altogether.

In conclusion, although individual graduates do gain personally from a degree, the wider social benefits are so large that making students bear the full cost would be both unfair and economically short-sighted.

问题解决题 Problem–Solution(范文)

In many cities, traffic congestion is getting worse every year. What problems does this cause? What solutions can you suggest?

Traffic congestion is increasingly choking large cities, and its costs are far greater than the time lost in queues. The most visible problem is lost productivity: millions of commuters sit in gridlock for an hour or more every day, time that could have been spent working or with their families. A second, less obvious problem is health. Stationary traffic burns fuel inefficiently, so congested roads pump far more exhaust into the air; in cities like Beijing and Delhi, peak-hour pollution has been directly linked to rising rates of asthma among children.

The most effective solution is to make alternatives genuinely better than driving. This means expanding metro and bus networks so that public transport is faster than a car for the same journey, as London and Tokyo have done. Congestion charging, already used in London and Singapore, is a second lever: drivers pay a fee to enter the city centre, and the revenue is reinvested in public transport. Third, cities can redesign themselves around shorter journeys—allowing remote work, clustering housing near offices and keeping schools close to residential areas reduces the number of long car trips in the first place.

There will always be some drivers who need their cars, such as delivery workers and disabled people, which is why solutions must be layered rather than a single ban. Exemptions and well-designed charging keep the system fair while still pushing most commuters towards the train or the bus.

In conclusion, congestion damages both the economy and public health, but a combination of better public transport, road pricing and smarter city planning can relieve it—and many of these measures already have proven results elsewhere.

利弊题 Advantages/Disadvantages(范文)

More and more people are choosing to work from home rather than commuting to an office every day. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

While working from home clearly brings real drawbacks, I am convinced that, for most workers, its advantages outweigh them, provided that companies manage remote teams thoughtfully.

The greatest benefit is the time and money saved by removing the commute. A worker who used to spend two hours a day travelling now gains roughly 40 hours a month, time that often goes into family life, exercise or simply a proper night’s sleep. Employers gain too: companies that allow remote work can recruit from a much wider pool of talent and often report lower office costs. For employees with children or disabilities, flexible working can be the difference between having a career and not having one at all.

The drawbacks are equally real. Spontaneous collaboration weakens when colleagues only meet through scheduled video calls, and some studies of remote teams suggest that innovation suffers as a result. New employees also lose the informal mentoring that happens naturally around an office, which can slow their development. Furthermore, home workers frequently struggle to switch off, and the boundary between work and rest becomes blurred.

However, these problems are not inevitable. Regular in-person days, clear rules about after-hours messages and structured mentoring programmes have all been shown to restore much of what is lost, which is why companies such as Microsoft and Alibaba now mix remote days with fixed office days. With sensible management, the drawbacks shrink while the savings remain.

In conclusion, although remote work can weaken collaboration and blur work–life boundaries, its advantages in time, cost and flexibility are so substantial that, managed well, it does more good than harm for most people and most employers.
